Raphaela Schmid is a director and screenwriter based in Vienna. Her films explore the possibilities of cinematic form through poetic imagery and formal experimentation, while examining the complexity and ambiguity of human relationships.

Before starting her studies in screenwriting and directing at the Filmacademy Vienna she studied Philosophy in Vienna, Berlin and São Paulo. Her films were screened at numerous national and international film festivals, e.g. Sarajevo Film Festival, Viennale and Leeds International Film Festival. Her short film FISH LIKE US  was awarded Best Short Film at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival (GER), received the Jury Prize and Audience Award at Vienna Shorts (AT) and Best Short Film Award at Diagonale (AT). Furthermore, the film was nominated for the Austrian Film Award.

Currently she is developing her feature films ALMOST PARADISE and THE MOON AND ITS AMNESIA, which received the Scholarship for Cinematic Art from the Austrian Ministry of Arts and Culture, were selected for the TalentLab of the Austrian Film Institute and invited to participate in the Les Arcs Talent Village.
